On Saturday, September 16, the Titans hosted Clash of the Titans, a home cross country meet at Hidden Valley High School. It was a tough race with quiet a few teams participating, including Faith Christian, Roanoke Catholic, North Cross, and many other teams.
It was an exciting race, with the varsity girls running around 10 am, and the varsity boys following them to run at eleven. The teams run a 5k, which is about 3.1 miles, around the school.
Will Caldwell (12) said that “our course is a tough one and it’ll push you.” Luckily, they get to run there for practice, but that doesn’t make it any less challenging during a race.
The varsity boys ended up winning their race and earning their trophy! They had an awesome race with some great 5k times. The girls also had a great race and ended up getting fifth place!
Most people ask why people would want to torture themselves and run such long races. As the runners pass, you can see the obvious pain on their face because they are pushing themselves so much. Will (12) claimed that while it is one of the tougher sports to do mentally and physically, “the love, support and overall warm environment that our teammates and coaches have created keeps me going through triumphs and tough times.”
So, while running looks painful and terrible, it brings a certain kind of peace to some people. The team is also always there for their teammates cheering at the finish line and throughout the race, and it brings everyone closer together. All in all, while it can be tough, the Titans persevered and did well in Clash of the Titans!
