Despite losing one of their top scorers from last season, the Hidden Valley High School Boys Basketball Team has high hopes for the 2023-2024 season. They are preparing for this season by having open gyms throughout the off-season and the players have been working hard in the weight room training. “We have to be a physical team this year,” Coach Hutchins said.
This season, Coach Hutchins wants the ball passed around. Coach Hutchins states, “We will have multiple top scorers this season, not just one.” Their offense-of-gameplan is a free moving offense. The point of the offense is to get people open and to wear out the opponent.
Some of the players are currently active in other sports. Jackson Getz says, “I’m ready for the season, and working on my skills when I have time outside of football.” It is a good mental break for them to play a different sport. “Some of the best athletes ever played multiple sports,” said Coach Hutchins.
They run the halls for their conditioning after school. One of the things they did was run the stairs for 9/11. They do it every year in respect for the ones who lost their lives. In addition, they run the whole court multiple times. They shoot free lines, but if they miss, they run as a team. It is a team building exercise and builds trust within each other.
The Boys Basketball season will start on November 6th with tryouts. The team will travel to Brookville first on November 15th for a scrimmage and start the regular season at home against Glenvar High School on November 27th.
