Roanoke’s Hidden Valley volleyball team is on their journey to becoming state champions in the 2023 season.
The previous two seasons, the Titans have fallen just short. In the 2021 season, they lost to Rustburg at home in the State Quarterfinals. In the 2022 season, the Titans were undefeated in the regular season, but unfortunately, they lost the State Championship to York in five sets.
The Titans are off to a good start this year after beating three of their opponents in three sets and one of their opponents in four sets.
Setter, Calli Anderson (11) said, “We are really going to have to lock in and focus during the postseason. We can’t get ahead of ourselves.”
The past three seasons, the Titans have not had any regular season trouble. They have only lost regular season matches in the past three years.
Anderson just surpassed 1000 assists in their match against Christiansburg on September 5th, which is an incredible achievement. Especially considering she is only in the Junior class.
The Titan volleyball team is considered the best team in the River Ridge district, and the statistics show. Hidden Valley has been district champions for the last 10 seasons, which is not something to be taken lightly.
Anderson says, “My favorite part about the team is the competitive environment we create for each other during every practice. We have really come together as a team this year.”
Being known as the “best around” puts a lot of pressure on the Titans to perform at a high level, but that should be no problem for them.
Although the season has just begun, the competitiveness and determination of the Titans is going to take them an extremely long way. If all goes well, it will take them down the road to become state champions for the first time since 2016.
