In the past month police discovered a series of tunnels stemming from a synagogue in NYC heading to various locations.
The tunnels started at the Chabad-Lubavitch headquarters in New York City. These tunnels stretched 60 feet under multiple buildings and are 8 feet tall. New York authorities said that the tunnels could have damaged some buildings structurally.
Around two months before the tunnels were found there were reports from a man named Richard Strocher on Twitter who lived in New York and was saying that he could hear Yiddish being spoke under his floor even though he lived on the ground floor and his building had no basement.
Despite the fact that this occurred in a major city and was a fairly strange thing to find there has been almost no new information released since the week the tunnels were discovered. The only media coming from this is conspiracy theorists trying to push the agenda that the tunnels were used for illicit activities like trafficking. But these claims are based on no evidence.
To get the people’s perspective I interviewed Brennan Metz, a senior at HV. When asked if he believed that the tunnels were made by hand like some media are reporting Metz said “I believe it couldn’t have been done by hand, as some have alluded to in the media. There had to be a variety of strong tools involved.”
As previously said, many of the perspective purposes for the tunnels all seem to be conspiracy theorists. With no real ideas from the media for what they could be for, I again spoke to Metz on what he thought they were for. He said, “Unfortunately I don’t know what good can be going on in any “Secret tunnels” but right now it is too early to tell much of anything about it. I haven’t heard much about it since they were found, so I don’t believe there will be a thorough investigation into them.”
And with no real answers we are all left scratching our heads wondering what these tunnels are really for.
