On December 28, 2023, Gypsy Rose was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center prison in Missouri.
In 2016, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her part in the murder of her mother, over a year after police found the body inside their home.
Shortly after, Nick Godejohn, her boyfriend, was found nearly 600 miles away from the crime scene. They both were arrested and charged with murder.
Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for her role in Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard’s murder.
Elizabeth James (11) says, “I think she was released at the right time, she served her years and seems like shes learned her lesson”
Dee Dee claimed that Gypsy suffered from multiple medical issues, including leukemia and muscular dystrophy, yet this wasn’t true. She was feeding her daughter unneeded medicine that left her unable to walk and weak otherwise.
Gypsy’s defense attorney argued that she was the victim of abuse, and her mother suffered a psychological condition called Munchausen syndrome that forced her to make up medical crises for her daughter, which by proxy is extremely rare, especially when it is compared with other types of similar child abuse cases.
Nick Godejohn told police that he stabbed Dee Dee to death at Gypsy’s request, using a knife she provided him. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, plus an additional 25 years for armed criminal action, reported CBS affiliate KOLR.
After being released on December 28, Gypsy claimed the first thing she wanted to do was meet Taylor Swift.
