While many of us are living our normal lives, numerous tragedies are happening elsewhere. On October 25th there was a mass shooting in Maine, leaving 18 people deceased and around 16 injured, all caused by one man. A huge manhunt was carried out after he committed the crime at a bowling alley and bar in Lewiston, ME. On Thursday night, the next day, police were going around a property in Bowdoin, ME and reportedly heard shouting for Robert Card to surrender and come out of the house with his hands up. As the police did more research on Card, they revealed that he is a US Army reservist from Bowdoin. They investigated more details about his declining mental health and why he had specifically targeted those two businesses.
According to ABC News, Robert Card’s brother told police that Card had been in a relationship for several months with a woman whom he met at the bar he later targeted. Shortly after the relationship ended, Card started wearing hearing aids and began saying “crazy things.” Another person claimed that Card felt as if people were looking at him in the wrong way, that they were after him, when he was out his ex- girlfriend’s two daughters. Robert’s father and brother tried helping him out as much as they could, but Robert refused it. Officials stated that they looked into his firearm possession history, and found three firearms from his vehicle and body that had been purchased legally. After days of the manhunt for Robert Card, he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Maine Recycling, a place he previously worked at.
