As the leaves begin to turn brown, and weather is getting cooler, society is turning to Netflix for an experience like no other. Gilmore Girls has begun its Fall 2023 season.
Gilmore Girls aired for the first time on October 15th, 2000. The show stars Lauren Graham as Lorelai and Alexis Bledel as Rory. When the show was initially released, it was a hit. The show was aired for 7 seasons, with a 4-episode reboot called “A Year In The Life” in 2016.
The show has been loved and quoted for 23 years and it has a magnetic effect on viewers, unlike most shows. It has a specific season to enjoy the series, autumn. This is because fall is highlighted throughout the series, far more intensely than any other season.
New seasons of Gilmore Girls often begin with Rory starting school in September. Many people have also expressed that watching it in fall feels warm and almost like a hug. Furthermore, the coloring of the show is full of autumnal tones.
Even the show’s intro features leaves falling and turning brown. There’s pumpkins, coffee, scarves, and sweaters. It sets the mood for the fall season.
Lorelai grew up in a wealthy and strict environment. At 16, she and her family are startled with the fact that her and her boyfriend are pregnant. She drops out of school and moves out of the house with her newborn Rory, who she named after herself.
At the beginning of the series, Rory is now 16, the same age as Lorelai when she gave birth to Rory. She adjusts to moving from public school to Chilton, a private school which is 30 minutes away from her home. Her dream is to go to Harvard, so public school wouldn’t give her the same opportunities.
Fall is a season of transition, and new beginnings. Lorelai and Rory show that transitions and change can be fun. Overall, autumn is a fan favorite, and Lorelai and Rory prove its purpose.
