The 2025–2026 school year introduces new staff to Hidden Valley, including a new ecology and anatomy teacher, Mr. Chisum
Mr. Chisum, an 8th year teacher, has taught at both Cave Spring Middle and High School as well as Glenvar Middle School. This year he teaches splits his time between Hidden Valley and Glenvar High School.
Although his favorite subject to teach has traditionally been Astronomy, Mr. Chisum said that he was thoroughly enjoying teaching Anatomy this year and plans to bring exciting changes to the class.
When asked how he wanted to approach the class he said he wanted to bring a more hands on experience with an abundance of labs so that his students can learn through practice. In addition, he would like to bring in medical professionals for students to meet and ask questions.
His students are equally as enthusiastic about this course. “I would really like to dissect a bigger animal this year, like a shark,” said Liza Willis (12), who hopes the class will give her a better understanding of the body before pursuing a medical career. “I really enjoy science classes as well as research and labs. I took anatomy because it seemed like a fun, useful class that would benefit me in the future.”
Mr. Chisum’s passion for teaching, paired with his students’ excitement, promises a memorable year. By combining engaging labs, hands-on projects, and unique opportunities like meeting professionals, he hopes to inspire students to see science as both practical and exciting. With this fresh approach, Anatomy at Hidden Valley High School is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience.
