A new creative writing club is launching at Hidden Valley High School this year, offering students an outlet for self-expression beyond traditional essays and research papers.
The club was founded by senior Lily Ratliff, who now serves as president. It is sponsored by English teacher Mrs. Biggio.
Ratliff said she wanted to create a space where students could write independently and explore their creativity.
“You don’t really get to explore that in typical English classes,” Ratliff (12) said.
The idea began last year when Ratliff and friends discussed the lack of creative writing opportunities at HVHS. She decided to turn the conversation into action by starting the club.
The club is open to students who want to share their writing, improve their skills and build confidence. Ratliff said the benefits will carry beyond high school, since writing is an essential part of both academic and professional life.
“My favorite part about this club is how writers can come together and learn to write stories,” Ratliff said. “It’s also a place where they can grow confidence.”
Ratliff said she hopes the club will become a supportive community where young writers can flourish and connect with peers who share the same passion.
The Creative Writing Club is among the most anticipated new student organizations at Hidden Valley, with organizers expecting strong interest.
