Chris Harless is a senior at Hidden Valley High School who has been a dedicated athlete throughout his high school career. He recently applied to the Firefighting Academy and plans to continue doing what he does best, being a friend to everyone around him. Known for his perseverance and team spirit, Harless has always been a fighter, and now, with graduation approaching, he is closer than ever to fulfilling his dream of becoming a firefighter.
Although he has played nearly every sport available, Harless has recently focused his attention on lacrosse. Football has also been a major part of his athletic journey, as he has played the sport for many years. This year, he joined the Journalism class as a way to reflect and contribute during his final semester at Hidden Valley.
“I’ve been focused on firefighting recently, and I’ve already applied for the academy,” Harless said while discussing his future plans. “I’ll definitely still keep in touch with my friends from high school. I think that’s very important.”
Teachers play a major role in the lives of students, but for athletes like Harless, coaches are just as influential. One coach in particular stood out to him.
“The teacher that made the biggest impact on me is probably Coach Ponn, I’d say,” Harless said. “Though it is a hard choice for me.”
Although it is bittersweet to see the Class of 2025 move on, their futures are full of opportunity and responsibility. Harless, now stepping into adulthood, has chosen a path of service and protection — a fitting journey for someone who has always looked out for others.
