Local Musician Caleb Meyer

Hidden Valley senior and local musician Caleb Meyer grew up in a household that was heavily influenced by Christianity. His dad was a pastor at the time and his mom was very religious. This type of background and exposure to religion inspired his first song “Burn the Idols”, which was written when he was just six years old.
“I wrote my first song when I was in first grade. Most of my music at the time was based off of religious beliefs which my parents instilled in me from a very young age,” said Meyer.

Caleb’s inspiration for his songs has greatly changed overtime from focusing mainly on religion to focusing on personal experiences and emotions.

“I used to write songs from ideas that would pop up in my head but now I focus and write more about personal experiences I have had in my life”, stated Caleb.

Meyer’s first performance was at Mellow Mushroom in the summer of 2017, and now he has regular gigs at Founders Tavern and continued gigs at Mellow Mushroom. He will be performing at the Cave Spring Boosters’ Bash at Blue Five on Saturday, March 24th.

“I have a set list of about forty songs which include covers and originals that I perform at my various gigs. I would describe my music as alternative and somewhat alternative rock which appeals to ages from early teens to early fifties,” said Meyer.

Although playing local gigs is something that interests Meyer, he feels that his future is in mixing and music production.

“I am currently producing my own EP, which I hope to release before going off to college,” said Meyer.

Even though he loves singing, he feels that a career in that field is risky and less stable.  Instead, he wants to go on a different path. His background and strong interest in music has steered him into making the decision to further his career by attending Liberty University and majoring in audio mixing and music production in the fall of 2018.

“If the door opened up to perform, I would, but it’s not something I see myself doing because it’s more risky,” said Caleb.

You can check out Caleb’s demos on Soundcloud @calebmeyer and see him perform at Founders Tavern from time to time on Thursdays and Saturdays.
