This school year, Ms. Graybill, a new English teacher, joined the Hidden Valley High School community. Her room is located in the English pod and is room number 208. At the moment, she works at both William Byrd and HVHS; at Byrd she teaches on A days and at Hidden Valley she teaches on B days.
Her story began at William Byrd, where she would later teach. After graduating high school, she attended Roanoke College, where she graduated in 2022, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and language. After this, she began attending Old Dominion University while working at William Byrd as a remediation tutor. At the end of August of this year, she graduated from Old Dominion with a master’s degree in library sciences and information. Today, it is likely that she will continue her dream of becoming a librarian.
Speaking of that dream, her associate Mrs. McCoy says, “She is actually a certified librarian. That is the eventual goal from teaching, as that is the easiest way to become a librarian.” At the moment, she’s quickly approaching that goal, as she’s already a certified librarian and has a library sciences degree. Of course, simply having the requirements are not enough to get hired, as the job market is extremely strict. Nonetheless, Ms. Graybill seems to have a clear goal and is chasing that goal as heavily as possible.
Lastly is an important question that must be asked, “Does she plan to stay at HVHS?” Well, according to her associate at Hidden Valley, “I sure hope so!” While this is obviously not a clear answer, her goal of becoming a librarian requires quite a bit of educational and bookwork experience, so it would likely be beneficial to continue working as a teacher. With that aside, this educator has a bright future ahead of her as a librarian, teacher, remediator, and lover of all things English.
