Valentine’s Day Desserts

February is an exciting month filled with the beginning of spring, warmer weather, and Valentine’s Day Festivities. Baking is always a fun activity, but it can be especially fun during the holidays. Courtney Monard (9th) loves to bake. She said she normally uses holidays as an, “excuse to get in the kitchen and make many sugary creations. “Reese Bradbury agreed saying, “I don’t bake very often, but during the holiday season, like Christmas, I like to bake cookies and homemade treats.”.

One simple, but cute, Valentine’s Day Recipe is Heart Hug Pretzels. They are perfect treats for when in a rush and just want a small treat. The ingredients for the Heart Hug Pretzels are snaps pretzels, Hershey kisses, and valentine’s day M&Ms.

A classic, easy, and delicious recipe are chocolate covered pretzels. These treats are perfect because they allow a lot of room for creativity. Since they pretty much look good and taste delicious no matter what you can choose a lot of the ingredients and colors. Some basic ingredients to get are pretzel rods, chocolate melts, and sprinkles. It is also helpful to have wax paper to make sure the pretzels don’t get stuck.

Another recipe is red velvet waffle cookies. Yep, they are just what they sound like! Delicious cookies made with a waffle maker and topped with a delicious cream cheese glaze. This one is a little more complicated than the Heart Hug Pretzels, but for sure, just as delicious.

Reese said her favorite baking ingredient is peanut butter because she “loves the taste and it goes with a lot of desserts.” One dessert peanut butter taste good with are Peanut Butter Sweethearts. These are a cookies with a melted dove chocolate heart on the top. It makes for the perfect combination with peanut butter and chocolate.

Of course, there are some delicious valentine’s day drinks. Sweetheart Strawberry Milkshakes are perfect for somebody who wants a delicious milkshake. You can make homemade strawberry ice-cream to make it even more perfect and homemade. To fancy it up you can add cute decorations to the outer of the cup with chocolate melts and sprinkles.

The holidays are some of the best times of the year! They make time for spending time together, decorating, and doing some fun things you normally might not do, like baking!  Baking delicious holiday treats can be a fun family and friend activity!
