The English Premier League club announced that Cristiano Ronaldo is leaving Manchester United with immediate effect. A week before United had made their decision, Ronaldo gave an explosive interview about his frustrations with the club. The decision was a mutual agreement. He has scored 145 goals in 346 appearances for the club. When Ronaldo decided to return to United, he was accompanied by so much fanfare that his No. 7 jersey became the fastest selling jersey ever. Just about a year after his homecoming, rumors started to spread on the topic of a possible trade and a fractious relationship with the club’s manager, Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag has benched the five-time Ballon d’or winner and instead has choose to put in Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial, players who better match his style of domination and possession and pressing high up the field. Ronaldo was benched the whole game against Tottenham, and he left before the game ended, not staying until the end. He was dropped from the squad for the following match against Chelsea as a punishment. The club’s relationship with Ronaldo began to worsen when he was reportedly trying to push for a transfer before the start of the season and that caused him to miss the preseason. Ronaldo was just at the World Cup for the Portugal national team in Qatar. Portugal has lost to Morocco in the quarterfinals. In his interview with Piers Morgan for TalkTv which was released just before the start of the World Cup, he explained how he felt betrayed by United and that he has no respect left for the manager.

“Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” Ronaldo has said in his statement to CNN.

“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

What team is willing to pay the price to have Ronaldo now? Where will he go next?
