Every year there are several big-name coaching hires or firings during and after the season. However, this year seems to have one of the most active and entertaining coaching changes in recent history. This is most likely due to the early signing period which encourages schools to have an exciting and appealing coaching staff that attracts the best prospects, and a plethora of blue-blood programs having coaching vacancies.

One of the larger moves made during this coaching carousel was the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly deciding to leave for LSU before his team’s bowl game. With over 100 wins coaching at Notre Dame and 2 CFP appearances, Kelly has a proven track record that will be sure to attract recruits at the prestigious Louisiana State University.

“I don’t actually believe that Brian Kelly will do a good job, I just don’t think that he’s that good of a coach or person”, said Graydon Bartlett (12).

Other notable head coaching changes consist of Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma to coach in Southern California for the once-powerhouse USC Trojans, Mario Cristobal taking over the Miami coaching job, Brent Venables going to Oklahoma, Billy Napier departing Louisiana to coach Florida, as well as Brent Pry taking over the job at Virginia Tech.

“I think that the signing period should be pushed back a little bit more to discourage coaches from leaving in the middle of the season”, said Graydon Bartlett (12).

After all of the head coaching positions have been filled, it will be exciting to see how the College Football world is shaken up.
