Week 9 of the CFB season brought together 4 of the last 7 undefeated giants to face off against each other. Penn State traveled to Minnesota to face off against the Golden Gophers who despite playing at home, remained the underdog. But, the matchup that most people were looking at was the #3 ranked Roll Tide hosting the #1 ranked LSU Tigers.

For Penn State, they hung in close with Minnesota until they threw an interception on 4th down and lost with a final score of 26-31. After the loss, Penn State’s CFP chances went down below 5% after being favored to make the National Championship. However, for Minnesota, their playoff chances rose tremendously after the upset win, but Minnesota would later lose all hope for a CFP spot after losing to Iowa just weeks later.

LSU took an early lead against Alabama and managed to maintain that lead for a majority of the game, however, Alabama was looking for a late comeback after cutting the lead to 6 after trailing by 20 points. Even with Alabama having the home field advantage and all of the momentum, LSU managed to hold off the comeback and get the win in Tuscaloosa. For Alabama, their playoff chances were taken down below 5% as well after Alabama’s hopes of even making their conference championship are gone. However, LSU has almost locked in the #1 spot in the CFP after defeating 3 top ten teams already this year alone.
