As track season winds down once again, members of the track team are working especially hard to make their way to states. In particular, seniors are hopeful that they will qualify for states.

Josh Rush (12), does shot put and discus. He is very close to qualifying for states in the shot put event.

“There’s a lot of pressure to make states as a senior since it’s my last year,” Rush (12) said.

Rush (12), who has done track for a few years, spoke fondly of his experience on the team. He said he felt good about his last season as a Titan.

“I sort of just use it as a pastime, but it’s been fun while I’ve been here,” He stated.

The qualifying standards for states in shot put are 46 feet and 10.25 inches. His best marks are 43 feet and 8.5 inches. One can also qualify by placing in the top six in their event.

“There is a very good chance that I could make states,” Rush (12) said.

Coach King, the head Track and Field and Cross Country coach, is confident that Rush (12) can make it to states.

“The boy who is ranked sixth has a mark that is two and a half feet better than Josh, but Josh has beaten him twice this year,” King said.

Rush (12) is excited to possibly get to states, but is unsure of how he will stack up against other qualifiers in his event.

“There’s a lot of elite athletes in states.” Rush (12) stated.

Rush (12) has the chance to make states on May 25th at the Regional Championships. Coach King is super confident that Rush (12) can qualify and do well at states.

“Josh continues to improve over the course of the season. I mean, just from the Knights Classic to the Conference Championship, which was just four days apart, he improved by a foot and a half. I think he’s got as good a shot as anybody else,” Coach King said.
