As the 2016 presidential election draws near, many people are taking sides between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Others, however, find both candidates to be repulsive and refuse to vote for either. During this election cycle, it is easy to fall into uninformed bias towards one candidate or the other because of the contentious nature of this election. As such, it is becoming increasingly important to take the time to thoroughly understand the nature of the many issues facing this country and the views of each candidate. Just as nothing in this world is black and white, there are many different dimensions to the issues that face America.

It’s tempting to believe that one’s own opinion is the only correct way to view things. This is especially true due to social media, where one set of values can generate much exposure from like-minded people. Still, the accessibility to the opinions of others can cause people to make conclusions based on half of the information. Taking the time to see the entire picture is a crucial step in making the best educated decision. If such research is not done, it becomes incredibly easy to make a mistake due to a lack of information. And, yes, this does mean looking into the perspective of the party that one is against.

Many people are prone to being content with their own views on solutions to issues that would benefit them or those around them. Once they find that their chosen candidate supports their way of life, they may end up taking time to look into that one person, and willingly decide to make themselves ignorant to the reasons and the specific details behind the opposing opinion. Sometimes, the most unsuspecting solution can turn out to be the best solution to a problem.

While doing minimal research on a topic can seem like an easy, and alluring way to choose between candidates, it is essential to take an extra step to become fully versed in the issues facing the country, remembering the person you vote for will soon be entrusted with the well-being of our nation.
