The Arrest of El Chapo’s Son

The Arrest of El Chapos Son

On January 5th Mexican Special Forces captured the son of El Chapo Ovidio Guzman in the state of Sinaloa.

Ovidio Guzman alleged fentanyl trafficker was arrested and captured in the state of Sinaloa. Ovidio Guzman is the son of notorious drug trafficker and kingpin El Chapo who was sentenced to life in prison on July 17,2019.

Ovidio was briefly detained the government in November of 2019, but was then released because the Sinaloa cartel reverted to heavy violence between the cartel and the government. The result of these events lead to civilians being killed and political hostages being taken by the cartel. The President of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador then issued that Ovidio be released to stop the violence. He was captured again recently, and the city of Culiacan has been under fire as the cartel is rioting for the release of Ovidio.

Twenty-nine people have been killed in this riot including civilians, rivel cartel members, and military personal. The government is holding Ovidio in a Mexican military and is being scheduled to be transported to the US to a high facility prison. As of right now the extraction is being halted due to all the violence happening.

When asked if this was a steppingstone for the country,  Junior Emmanuel Salvador stated, “definitely because you always here about the FBI or DEA capturing a high ranking member but this time it was the Mexican government which proves that they are capable of doing important missions”.

With such a high-ranking member gone the question remains does this make the cartel weaker or does will they come back with a vengeance and stronger. Emmanuel stated that “they will definitely come back with a vengeance but they don’t look as strong right now because he’s gone but they will come back”.
