On August 8th the FBI searched Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago mansion in Palm Spring, Florida for suspicion of stolen documents after his presidency. When the former president’s mansion was searched, it was alleged that classified documents were being held at his home. Ever since the raid last month, more evidence of the seized documents has been released to the public. Many empty ‘Classified’ and ‘Return to Staff Secretary’ folders were found along with ‘top secret’ markings on documents. 

It had been an accusation since his departure from the White House in 2021 that he had taken 15 boxes of secret material to his new home in Mar-A-Lago. Some people are wondering why his home was suddenly searched after almost two years of not being in office. Some sources believe that the raid at Trumps mansion was politically motivated due to his former presidency and how he was portrayed in the media. While others believe that it was searched because of the case being built against him since he took the boxes of records.  

An anonymous student at Hidden Valley says, “I think that motivation could have something to do with it because he’s an ex-president and the people really hate him.” 

Even though some believe there was political motivation involved in the search, as of right now, the Department of Justice is looking into the crime, as it is not legal to remove classified documents from the White House. There are currently laws in place for the mishandling of government records which could be used against Trump if he is found guilty of any crimes related to this raid.  

Due to the evidence found in Trump’s mansion, an arrest could be carried out after the investigation concludes. However, whether an arrest will occur is up for the question. 

Another student at Hidden Valley says, “While we can all say that no one is above the law in this country. It is frankly not true. When it comes to extreme wealth and power, the fact of the matter is you just cannot be held appropriately accountable.”
