School shootings in the U.S. have become more common.

On November 30, 2021, a shooting took place at Oxford High School in Michigan. The killer, Ethan Crumbley, took his parents gun and opened fire for unknown reasons.

The 15-year-old sophomore is in custody now, scheduled for court on January 7. His parents were charged with manslaughter (involuntary) on Friday, December 3, for being in connection with their son’s actions. They were arrested that Saturday, after an hours-long manhunt.

Students recalled going through the lockdown protocol once they heard the gunshots. Teachers locked doors and pushed chairs against doors, while students grabbed scissors and calculators for self-defense. Four students, Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16; Hana St. Juliana, 14; and Justin Shilling, 17, were killed and seven others were injured, including a teacher. All of these remembered students excelled academically, and, in their sports, which included bowling, football, and basketball.
