DMX, a famous American rapper, died peacefully after going into cardiac arrest in White Plains, New York, on April 9th, 2021. DMX, also known as Earl Simmons, was most famously known for his song, X Gon’ Give it to Ya. He collapsed inside of his home and went into cardiac arrest after overdosing on drugs. He became addicted to cocaine at 14 years old when he hit a blunt that was laced with cocaine. This blunt was given to him by someone he looked up to, Ready Ron, he was DMX’s mentor. DMX did not understand why someone he looked up to would give him hardcore drugs at just 14 and this would eventually cost DMX his life. DMX was a good person and wanted to help people, he decided he wanted to become a pastor and give back to the community. However, his dreams were cut short after smoking a lethal dose of crack cocaine.

“I didn’t listen to much of his music, but I did like the song X Gon’ Give it to Ya. Drug abuse is more common now so hopefully this brings awareness to the issue.” Sheeva Sarmadi (11).

Drug abuse has become more and more common each year with teens and drugs can have long term effects on the kids. You cannot trust drug dealers because they can lace their products with other unknown substances that could be fatal, in DMX’s case, it was fatal. DMX was wrongly lied to by Ron and eventually it would lead to his death.

“I liked DMX, and this is very saddening to hear. I didn’t know he wanted to be a pastor that is really interesting, but it sucks he couldn’t do it.” Miguel Diaz (11).
