Did you know that the government is considering banning TikTok? The social media app was released in September of 2016. Since then, TikTok has an average of 800 million users, a total of 2 billion downloads, and is available in 155 countries (Oberlo).

On August 6, NPR released a statement that an executive order was drafted to ban TikTok due to security issues stemming from its Chinese ownership. TikTok was given 45 days to find an American buyer (CNN).

The President’s order has been postponed till November 12 according to (Deccan Chronicle).  The Presidents’ decision to ban Tiktok could have major repercussions on the people who use it. The primary use for TikTok is for entertainment; however, it also serves as a social platform for people to share their opinions.

Ultimately the November 12 deadline is set in stone and there will be no further extensions. TikTok will either find an American buyer or the popular social media platform will be dissolved.
