Greta Thunberg is a climate change activist. She is sixteen years old and leading marches of people by the millions to bring change. Greta collaborated with a popular band called, The 1975 to create a statement about the issue for millions to hear. She attended the Climate Action Summit 2019 and had many great words to say, including her speech titled, How Dare You.

Greta Thunberg was born on January 3, 2003 in Sweden. In only a year Greta’s movement, school strike for climate, has reached international recognition. She had convinced her family to live a lifestyle that would cut their carbon emissions. Greta has sailed across the world just to stand up for what she believes in and some people still can’t see the urgency of the issue.

In her collaboration with The 1975, she created a statement played over music about her views on climate change. In a video titled The 1975 – The 1975, with over 600,000 views, this is some of what she had to say.

“We are right now in the beginning of a climate and ecological crisis. And we need to call it what it is, an emergency. We must admit that our older generations have failed,” Notes on a Conditional Form, Matthew Healy, George Daniel, Greta Thunberg, Daniel Healy, Dirty Hit and Polydor Records, February 21, 2020, track 1. With these opening statements, Greta Thunberg shows that she is serious and she wants people to listen.

Nearing the end of her speech at the Climate Action Summit, she said, “You say you hear us and you understand the urgency, but no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that because if you really understood the situation and still kept failing to act, then you would be evil and I refuse to believe that.” Greta is saying, politicians are lying to everyone that is concerned about climate change and telling them that they are doing what they can. When in reality they don’t believe the urgency. At just the age of 16 years-old, Greta Thunberg has become the face of climate change activists. Her accomplishments are inspiring to younger and older activists. Greta Thunberg will continue to inspire the world to live healthier and more ecofriendly lives.
