In January of 2016, an annotated version of Mein Kampf, a book covering Adolf Hitler’s political ideals, was released to the public in Germany after the copyright held by the Bavarian State government expired back in 2015. Having gone unpublished since 1945, Mein Kampf quickly became a bestseller upon hitting shelves, exceeding 80,000 copies sold in the past year.

With the release of the book, many people are concerned that this may contribute to Neo-Nazi ideals. Plenty of people feel unnerved by the devastating history surrounding the publication, as it is undoubtedly a very controversial subject.

This is not stopping people from consuming this piece of history, however. According the New York Times, the Institute of Contemporary History in Munich affirmed that “By and large it appears to be customers who are generally interested in politics and history, as well as people who are active in political education, such as teachers.”

In response to this, many countries have reached out, requesting translations for the various languages. It is expected that only English and French versions will be released in the future.
