Dolittle

A review of the movie "Dolittle."

We recently watched “Dolittle” starring Robert Downey as the title character, joined by fellow Hollywood stars like Selena Gomez, Tom Holland, and even John Cena. Directed by Stephen Gaghan, the budget was a whopping $175 million US dollars. However with our rating of four out of five stars, it was well worth the money.

Dr. John Dolittle has an ability to communicate with animals, but he lives in solitude because of the loss of his wife, Lilly, who died on a journey to find the Eden Tree. But when his beloved world of animals and shelter is put in danger because Queen Victoria is coming closer and closer to death, he must go out on an expedition to procure a rare fruit. This fruit comes from the Eden Tree, on a mythical island and is the only hope to save the queen.

The plot of the movie, although simple, is very well written and the finished, polished product was certainly nothing to scoff at. The visuals of the film itself practically make you believe what’s on the screen. The actors playing as the animals and their performances pull you into the magical adventure, making you fully invested in the outcome of the story. Certainly “Dolittle” will be a family favorite for years to come.
