Solo: A Star Wars Story came out on May 24, 2018 and gave Star Wars fans something to look forward to while awaiting the ninth installment of the Star Wars franchise. Not being a huge Star Wars fan myself, I walked into the theater with little to no expectations, as I really didn’t know what exactly to expect.

One of the primary reasons I wanted to watch this movie was because of the cast, specifically Donald Glover playing Lando Calrission. Granted, I’m more of a Childish Gambino fan than his acting counterpart Donald Glover, but I believed his role in this movie was eloquent and well-placed.

As mentioned above, I’m not well-versed in the Star Wars universe but I still really enjoyed the movie even though I may not have picked up on every little connection. With that being said, a few avid Star Wars fans have told me that they didn’t personally enjoy the movie, as it didn’t connect well to the other movies and was somewhat inaccurate. I didn’t pick up on these cues, but an informed fan who pays attention throughout the movie probably will.

With this, I believe that this movie is great for casual fans while it may be a little problematic for the avid fans. I would recommend seeing it, as but there is definitely some controversy behind whether it is a valid installation as a Star Wars prequel.
