The new film from the brilliant mind of David Lowery, The Green Knight, is an incredible breath of fresh air in the modern world of cinema. It tells the story of the 14th century poem by the same name and delivers an incredibly unique and visually stunning experience.

The film follows the story of an old medieval poem that tells the tale of Sir Gawain, one of King Arthur’s knights, and his quest to find the Green Knight at the green chapel. Along the way the film touches on the stereotypical plot points of old hero tales. The film is a beautiful satire of what old mythic stories used to be, where the great knight slays the dragon and takes the precious gold. But it does not rely on the audience to understand this a sort of satire to enjoy it. Even without the intent in mind this will be one of the greatest modern releases you will see.

While the story is spectacular, I believe the visuals and the performances really takes the lead. The incredible performance from Dev Patel, Sir Gawain, is just awe inducing. He sucks you into this mythic-like world and keeps you there. With the work of director David Lowery and cinematographer Andrew Droz Palermo you will receive one of the best visual and cinematic experiences of the last year. With all of this in mind this film is a strong 5 out of 5 Titan shields.

The film was released on July 31, 2021 making it one of the few new releases in a semi-post COVID world.
