Enola Holmes

Micah Peay, Reporter

Enola Holmes puts an original spin on the Sherlock Holmes adventures.  It weaves female empowerment themes into its traditional mystery structure.

Enola, played by Millie Bobby Brown, is Sherlock Holmes’ sister.  After her mother goes missing, she searches for her.  Along the way, she ends up meeting Vincent Tewksbury (Louis Partridge), who is a young lord in peril.

The movie was released on September 23, 2020 by Netflix.  It is rated PG-13 for language and mild violence.

Although the movie is highly entertaining, the narration was a little bizarre.  It often interrupted action sequence, pausing the most climatic moments of the movie.

This movie really teaches female empowerment, and how women can accomplish anything.  Enola is a strong female character, but also, the plot intertwines with the women’s suffrage movement that emerged in the 19th century.

Furthermore, like all good mystery movies, audiences should always pay attention to the little details, because they end up being a big part of the big picture plot reveals.

This movie receives a 9/10 as it was a fun, fast-paced mystery even though there were strange moments of narration.
